It is a historical and heritage monument that reminds you of the true beauty of nature and a look at the disturbing stories of the past. Built-in 1505 by the first Portuguese viceroy of India Don Francesco de Almeida it showed the true potential of the Portuguese architectures.

Built-in a triangle shape using red laterite stone the fort was also known as Kannur Fort. In 1663 the Dutch captured the fort and later in 1790 the British took it from the Dutch and made it their important army base in Malabar. Even though it has lost its former glory the monument is still rich with Indian history and so it is preserved by the archaeological survey of India.
