The Payyabalam beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Kerala with a incredibly peaceful and inviting atmosphere. Payyabalam beach is the main attraction of the Kannur district. The entrance to the beach is a small crossover bridge that is built over a narrow canal. After passing the bridge you can see the memorials of Kannur’s important political personalities that had passed away, on the right side of the bridge. The beach is filled with the nature’s beautiful palm trees and casuarinas furnished the shores like a charming garland in various shades of green. This beach is almost 4kms in length.

By Road: You can use KSRTC or private bus or cab to reach the payyambalam beach. It is about a distance of 2.9 km from the Kannur Thavakkara town bus stand.
The Kannur Lighthouse is located near the Payyambalam Beach, and can be visible from the State Beach Hotel. Lighthouse is near to the Sea View Park and the Government Guest House. Kannur lighthouse is the first lighthouse to be constructed in Kerala which is built in 1903, and it’s about 75 feet height. It is the fourth largest lighthouse in Kerala and one of the popular tourist Places in Kannur. The lighthouse lights up the skies every night. This solitary light became useful to the hundreds of fishing boats in the region. There is a spiral staircase to climb the top of the lighthouse. The top offers spectacular views of the entire Kannur city, Baby Beach, the vast area of the Arabian Sea and some parts of Payyambalam Beach. There is a small museum that displays various equipments used for lighting and also a documentary about the lighthouse history. There is a mini theatre in the musem which shows a short film about history of the lighthouse and also there is a light and sound show in the evening.

The Arakkal Museum is situated in Kannur city, which is one of the most significant and frequently visited attractions of the south Kerala that celebrates the memory and grandeur of Kerala’s only Muslim royal family the Arakkal Ali Rajas. The Arrakkal Museum is completely dedicated to the Arakkal family.
Arakkal Museum is an evidence for Arackal dynasty that ruled the ancient Malabar. The museum is really a section of the Arakkalkettu (Arakkal Royal Palace). Many antiquities dating to the rule of the Arakkal Dynasty and different relics of the royals are put up on display at this museum. The Durbar Hall section of Arakkal palace,which was once the official venue of gathering for the kings and their nobles,has now been converted into the Museum and is managed by the Arakkal Family Trust.
There is a nominal entry fee is charged by the Arakkal Royal Trust from visitors to the museum.
The Arakkal Museum is located in Ayikkara, this place is next to the Kannur City. It is located 2-3 kilometres from Kannur town.
The museum is closed on Mondays.

St Angelo Fort is a historic fort in Kannur which is a 500 year old fort. St Angelo Fort was built by the Portuguese after the 1498 visit of Vasco Da Gama to India. The fort’s work starts in 1505 by Dom Francisco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India. The fort was used by the Portuguese to provide naval supplies for their military force of Goa and Malacca.
St Angelo Fort is a huge triangular fort made with red laterite stones, the fort rests on a cliff situated beside the majestic Arabian Sea and is surrounded with a beautiful garden. It has huge chapels, stables, a prison and an ammunition storehouse. One of the important spot that can be seen within the fort is a grave stone that belongs to the family of a Dutch commander.The best time to visit the fort is during early morning or during sunset.
The fort is at a beautiful location overlooking the Moppila Bay Harbour and is a quite nice area to walk around in with a lot of greenery and good views of the sea along the ramparts of the fort, also we can see the old canons still in position as they used to be ages ago. There is also an amphitheatre where Light and Sound shows are sometimes held in peak tourist season.
The fort is located about 4 km from the Kannur city centre. It takes about 12 to 14 minutes to reach the fort from Kannur. If you take the Ayikkara Government Hospital Rd You will reach faster.
